Day 3 - Cabbage Soup Diet

Ugh.  Today was not so fun!  Probably 4 hours of restless sleep, a migraine, an unexpected early call into work, and lack of energy...set me up for failure!

I still started off strong this morning, somehow, but by lunch time I was hurting!  The migraine sapped what little energy I had left, and I was feeling pretty light headed.  I ended up cheating with a small bowl of Ziti at lunch time with the kids.  It was pretty crazy how just that little bit of solid food improved how I was feeling, rather quickly.  Maybe I just needed some carbs, maybe it's all in my head...whatever the case, I was able to finish out the rest of the day cheat free!

Salad for lunch again, today also included fruits so I was able to snack on apple slices, strawberries and grapes.  I'm trying to get down the 8 glasses of water, but I usually come up a little short.  I had the soup for dinner, still tastes ok, but definitely not something I look forward to at this point.  The soup does seem to make me pretty thirsty.

Tomorrow is soup, bananas, and skim milk.  Guess we will see how it goes.  I think the bananas will fill me up, but I'm really looking forward to having something solid in my stomach to absorb some of the fluids!  We will see how the milk goes, I'm not really a milk drinker, and when I do drink milk, it's usually 2%.

Down about 3.8 lbs since Monday morning.  Just about half way there...I'm already dreaming about the meat days...

Day 2 - Cabbage Soup Diet

Day 2 is successfully over! I'm sadly impressed with myself for actually making it through a second day without cheating!

Today was the veggie day, I found it much easier than yesterdays fruit.  However, I did feel awfully strange starting off my morning with carrots and broccoli for breakfast...
I packed my salad in a mason jar for lunch, which was a big hit.  And by dinner time...a baked potato has never tasted so good!  Wow, I devoured that thing fassssst.  But it was pretty satisfying and I felt pretty full afterwards.

Soup wasn't so appetizing today, I know the rest of the week is going to be a struggle to get it down.  So far my weight has gone down 3.3 lbs, mostly all water, but I'll take it!  It's a promising way to start off the diet, and probably one of the only reasons I'll be able to stick with it!

Day 3 is a mix of fruits and veggies, and soup. No potato this time :(  I think so far tomorrow will be the hardest.

I'm still feeling a bit bloated, I've been using beano, as recommended, with the soup.  Cabbage is a know for creating gas, ugh!  Otherwise I'm feeling ok.  Not too hungry, my stomach felt more full than yesterday with the fruit, and I haven't been too lethargic, which was another "risk factor".

Day 1 - Cabbage Soup Diet

Well,  day 1 is over.  I made it through the whole day without cheating!  That's a plus...

The soup isn't awful, it actually tastes pretty good!  That being said, sitting down for yet another bowl for dinner tonight was not anything I was jumping over the moon about.  I had lots of melon, apples, grapes, and strawberries throughout the day, along with some cranberry juice, water, and...cabbage soup.

So far I just feel bloated, and that's about it.  No coffee in the morning was kind of a drag as well.  But 1 day down, 6 to go!

Tomorrow is the veggie day, which I think will actually go easier than the fruit day.  Fruit just made my stomach feel kind of gurgley, but raw veggies and salad shouldn't be too hard.  I also get a baked potato with dinner, which I can already taste!

Cabbage Soup Diet

Well, it was around this time last year that we were in the middle of our Girls Weight Loss Challenge.  That was fun, but took a lot of work to organize, so I decided to do one on my own this year.

Being the year of our wedding, I've already been hitting the gym, mainly doing weight training.  The cabbage soup diet is only a week long low fat, high fiber diet.  You loose a lot of weight quickly, but then after the week you have to work to keep it off!  I think it is just the kick in the pants I need...

I started cooking my soup today, and will start day 1 tomorrow.  I got the recipe from Catherine, who also had lots of good tips on her website, check her out!

I started with all of the ingredients:
Cabbage, green pepper, onions, diced tomatoes, carrots, celery, bouillon cubes, and water.  (I left out the mushrooms, but you're welcome to add them!)

The colors looked amazing while they were starting to cook:
I had read in multiple places that the soup is very bland, but that it is ok to season it, just without salt.  This will probably be my biggest downfall...I'm a huge salt fan!  I don't like anything too spicy, but I did add a little curry powder for some flavor.  Along with some parsley, basil, garlic and onion powder.  Here it is simmering away...
Tomorrow marks Day 1, so I'm allowed to eat as much soup as I want along with as much fruit as I want, minus Bananas.  I'll come back and let you know how it tastes!

Old Candles, New Jars...2!

So in my last post, I showed a rather labor intensive way to clean candle jars.  Since then I haven't done much with all of the jars that I have.  But I finally used one!

This year we decided to start a new "New Years Eve Tradition".  I started a 2013 Memory Jar, and on this New Years Eve we are going to go back and read all of our favorite memories.  

I took one of my large empty candle jars, and just added some vinyl stickers.  It was hard to get a picture showing all of the wording, since the jar is round...but you get the idea!
 Slowly, as something really good happens, we've been adding slips of paper with our favorite memories to the jar.  I'm hoping that by New Years Eve the jar will be filled with lots of good memories!  I think that it will be really fun to take a walk down memory lane, and remember all of the good things we had to be thankful for in 2013.  Bring it on!
